ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Marwan II ibn Muhammad, AH 127-132 / AD 744-750. Fals (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.75 g, 3 h), al-Fustat (Old Cairo). Within a dotted circle, ‘Miṣr’ (‘Misr = Egypt’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘amara ʿabd Allāh Marwān amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘The Servant of Allah, Marwan, Commander of the Believers, ordered [it]’ in Arabic)’. Rev. Within a dotted circle, ‘al-Fusṭāṭ’ (‘al-Fustat’ in Arabic); in the margin, citing the finance director Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, ‘ʿalā yaday al-amīr ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān’ (‘Under the hands of amir Abd al-Malik son of Marwān’ in Arabic)’. Album 150. Rare. Somewhat rough and with some deposits, otherwise, very fine.
